Every homeowner has a set of “essentials” that help maintain our pride and joy. Our lawns and gardens require a lot of care and one of the most important gadgets is a grass trimmer. Making those edges neat, tidy and well groomed makes all the difference in the world. Talk about curb appeal! The DEWALT 60V Max trimmer is the boss and makes quick work of your chore. This string trimmer really sets the bar high and this model also accepts a host of attachments, making it a serious all-in-one piece of equipment. The high-efficiency brushless motor maximizes run time and product life while consistently providing the capacity to tackle tough overgrowth and withstand heavy-duty use. You can easily convert this trimmer into other outdoor tools with universal attachment – capability that allows you to connect additional add-ons and take on more work. These include an edger, bush cutter, tree trimmer and blower. That’s a lot of equipment in one compact unit. The trimmer boasts a 60V Max Flexvolt battery that is also backwards compatible to work with 20V Max DEWALT tools. Smart and strong! This 17-inch, dual line trimmer easily out-muscles all of the competitors. The quick-load spool is a godsend and saves you the painful chore of fiddling with awkward string and flimsy spools of other makes. The best part is you don’t need to pull out the string – a gentle bump while trimming will release more. Love this! It’s ergonomic, and has form fitting handles. The long reach and well designed guard will keep all your toes safe. Best of all, this tool has an amazing variable trigger with a high/low speed control. It rivals any gas-powered piece and is much lighter and easier to operate. The dual trigger system is practical and has a safety element to it. In the box you will get the trimmer, pre-wound spool, handle, guard, batter and charger. This has some real heft to it, which speaks to its quality metal parts. It’s not unwieldly because it’s very well balanced. You can adjust where you want the hand grip for added comfort. You’ll be the envy of your neighbours when you flash this bad boy around. Right away, people will know it’s a DEWALT by its colours. The only caution with this is that your neighbours may be distracted from their own chores! The DEWALT trimmer is available at most leading retail outlets. For more, visit https://www.dewalt.ca/products/outdoor/lawn-garden/string-trimmers

Electric vehicles, from standup scooters to elaborate e-bikes, are now common across the landscape. They’re here to say, and they’re definitely helping residents and communities achieve their zero emission goals. Stuck. No that’s not the name of a new reality show (but it could be. I got dibs.) The country-wide crash of Rogers services sent people into a tailspin. Many services were cancelled, and debit machines were down for a couple of days.

H. Jackson Brown Jr. once said that we parents should live in a way that when our kids think of fairness, caring and integrity, they think of us. There are many lasting bequests we can pass on to our kids. All we can do is try, and hope that we give them the qualities, characteristics and moral fibre to be decent, contributing members of society.

Are we all alone in this, or are we part of something bigger, more complex and well, just more? There’s been a lot of debate on just who to rely on to help pull us out of our self-made holes.

I’m tired. Not in a sleepy, sloth-in-a-tree kind of way. Not a sunbathing turtle type of sleepy. I’m tired in a life kind of way.

With all the troubles in our world, the “silly season” – election time in Ontario – has brought out some silly suggestions. The Ontario Liberals have pledged to ban the sale, possession, transport and storage of handguns if elected. Their plan will also accept the federal government’s offer to fund a buy-back program; partner with the federal government to stop gun smuggling at the Ontario-U.S. borders, and advocate to extend the ban nationally so that guns can’t be funneled through inter-provincial borders. Once again, our politicians are firing blanks to speak.

We humans come from a long line of storytellers. It’s in our blood. “A single conversation across the table with a wise man is better than 10 years mere study of books,” said Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Just how did our wonderful lives become one massive to-do list? Most of us working stiffs – the 9-to-5ers – have fallen into crippling routines. We set our alarms, get up, head into work and put in a day’s worth of wage-earning duties.

They say a fool and his money are soon parted. While consumer spending is integral to keeping the wheels of our economy turning, there comes a point where frugality must step in.

We look at ourselves daily, but how often do we ask the hard questions? When do we stare at our own reflection and ask “who am I?” I asked myself that very question and was puzzled, perplexed even dumfounded. Who am I?

The complex tug-of-war between life and death has plagued humankind from the very beginning. Looking up at the stars in the night, even our cave-dwelling ancestors wondered about “what’s next.” Humans have been driven to uncover the answers, through gods, various religious texts, even the search for the fountain of youth and Shangri-La.
